The sheer number of times I have seen the movie Cars in the past few months is honestly daunting. I rented the movie once in an effort to get Ryan to sit still and quiet for once so Owen could get in a good nap (we have a tiny house and 8/10 naps Owen takes are interrupted by Ry screaming at the top of his lungs from outside where Owen is napping..) and it was the first time I have ever seen Ryan sit still for longer than 20 minutes. He sat and watched the entire thing in silence and since that day he asks nearly daily to watch it. I ended up buying it on Google Play so I can stream it and I’m pretty sure I could recite the movie line by line.
It really shouldn’t have shocked me – a movie about race cars? For the little boy who came into this world already harboring a car obsession? The son of a mechanic? Yeah. It was kind of inevitable.
The reality of it is that Ryan is just obsessed with anything and everything car. He loves being in the car because he can point out cars as we pass them (YES it gets old really, really quickly) and he even classifies cars by who owns them – minivans are ‘mom cars’, Jeeps are ‘grandpa cars’ since my dad has one, pickup trucks are ‘daddy trucks’ – you get the picture. His other favorite show is Blaze and the Monster Machines, a kid’s show about talking monster trucks.
