I’ve mentioned here before that in our home, ice cream is an all year treat. I don’t care if there’s a foot or two of snow on the ground, I want ice cream. Thankfully, I married a man who agrees (or, at the very least endures me addiction) so we eat the cold, creamy stuff even when not in season. If I’m looking for something sweet in the afternoon or at night once Ryan’s asleep, I immediately think of ice cream, where others many think of cookies or candy. Heck, I’m a December baby, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve asked for an ice cream cake.
So it’s safe to say that when I was given the opportunity to learn more about Klondike® brand ice cream, I was so excited. Do you remember those commercials where they would ask what someone would do for a Klondike bar? And it was always crazy stuff? That’s what I think about when I hear Klondike.
Now, when you think of Klondike, I’d be willing to bet you think of those vanilla ice cream squares covered in a thick, chocolately shell of your childhood. Uhm, delicious. So when I went to my local grocery store I was definitely blown away by the selection of Klondike products! Seriously, Alex and I stood there for an embarrassing amount of time taking it all in and making the tough decision of what to stock our freezer with.
Thankfully, we eventually made up our mind (okay, so Ryan may have been having a mini meltdown, no pun intended) and came home with 4 boxes of happiness.
First and foremost, my pick: the Caramel & Peanuts Kandy Bar. UHM, you guys. These are SO good. They remind me of a frozen – you guessed it – candy bar. The shell is the thick, delicious, chocolate shell you remember from the Original, but mixed with chopped peanuts. It’s all on top of that classic vanilla ice cream and a layer of luscious caramel. You guys, this was amazing. Like, I had to force myself to stop at one, amazing.
But you don’t necessarily HAVE to stop at one any more – now the boxes come with 2 free bars, giving you a total of 6 bars for the same price. If you’ve never heard of them before now, Klondike® Kandy Bars debuted in 2014 and are now available nationwide in the following varieties: Mint Fudge Cookie, Caramel & Peanuts, Fudge Krunch, and Cookies & Cream. How delicious do all of those sound?!
Next up was a twist on an old classic: a Dark Chocolate Klondike bar. Alex isn’t a huge fan of milk chocolate and loves super dark chocolate, so we chose this for him. It’s delicious! It’s just like the typical Klondike bar you remember as a kid, but with dark chocolate coating rather than the typical milk chocolate. Also, have you seen how many different kinds of Klondike bars they have these days? Cookie Dough Swirl, Caramel Pretzel, Heath, REESE’S, Mint Chocolate Chip, Krunch, OREO, Dark Chocolate, Rocky Road, Double Chocolate, Neapolitan, and Original, OH MY. Next time, I’m definitely going for my beloved REESE’S!!
Lastly, we grabbed a box of Oreo Cookies & Cream ice cream sandwiches and a box of Mrs. Field’s ice cream sandwiches. If you’ve been following the blog lately, you’ve seen that we’ve been indulging in ice cream sandwiches, and these were such a great addition to our rotation! So delicious. They also have Original Vanilla, which is like your classic ice cream sandwich.
I’m blown away by the selection available by the #KlondikeVariety. And I didn’t even get to mention the other options they have – Choco Tacos, No Sugar Added, and 100 Calorie Versions all sound so amazing! Klondike bars and Kandy Bars would be such a fun addition to any party or fall get-together you’re having and what a fun twist and surprise to your guests who may expect the typical chips/dip/cookies fare and instead are treated to delicious items that remind them of childhood.
So, have you ever had a Klondike bar? Which new flavor are you most interested in? Do you segment your ice cream consumption by season, or eat it all year long like me? Let me know in the comments!
