Every mom says it, but oh my word – where has the time gone? Somehow 5 months have passed since Owen was born. I swear, this second baby – his little life is flying by, so much faster than it did with Ryan. So much so, that when i told Alex the other day that Owen was 5 months old, even he – who is usually like, “Yeah, that’s how time works, Morgan..” – was momentarily shocked that the time is moving so fast.
Nicknames: O, Owie, Browen, Oster Toaster, baby Owen, nugget, O-ser, baby boy.. basically everything under the sun.
Diapers: size 2
Clothes: Somewhere between 0-3 and 3-6.
Weight: I would guess 14 – his last appointment was a little over 13.
Likes: Being around people, being held, his jumper, laying on the floor, toys(!), his big brother, being swaddled.
Dislikes: the car seat < — a real pain, guys. Sleep, apparently.. Driving me crazy. He’s turning into a mini Ryan.
Eating: Still going strong! I can’t even tell you guys how excited I am to start baby led weaning with him. The last week or two he’s been grabbing at my plate while I’m eating, (you know, since he refuses to let me have a single. freaking. meal. alone.) which gives me the cues that this boy is ready to eat.
Sleeping: Ugh. After a few months of okay sleep, the 4 month sleep regression hit hard and he’s still stuck in it (I think?) Getting him to sleep at night is becoming a whole process and naps require rocking (though I’ve stuck with not nursing him to sleep, so I’ll take it.) He did have 2 nights where it seemed like he was coming out of it, but then went back to multiple long wake-ups each night again.. womp.
Other things of note:
Seriously, Owen is starting to hit a spot where he’s getting fun! He’s starting to realize there is a world around him and he wants to PLAY!
This month, we bought Owen a jumper – and he loves it! Unlike Ryan, he is mostly just content sitting in it. We put a pillow underneath since his legs aren’t long enough yet, and he just chills there.
He’s finally happy (and insists on) laying on the ground/his mat. I think he’s starting to grow out of his reflux, which is a huge relief. He still spits up, but not with the force, screaming, or prolonged anger.
Owen is starting to LOVE toys! We have a few O-Ball toys that are perfect for little fingers and lightweight. It’s so interesting to see the difference between Owen and Ryan – it took a long time for Ryan to even care about toys (as opposed to wooden spoons, my phone and Cooper – some things never change, ha!)
As always, seeing these two together warms my heart so, so, so much. I just can’t. It’s so clear to me that they already love one another so much, and I can’t wait to watch them grow up together. (Though, just in case you think it’s all rainbows and kumbaya over at the Wieboldt household, we’ve had our fair share of jealous fits, screaming, toy stealing, and hitting already.)
