On Tuesday Baby Wieboldt will be 3 months, so it’s time for another check in on how he’s growing! 3 months old is kind of a crazy time since it marks the end of what many call the “fourth trimester” as well as the definitive end of the newborn stage. (insert crying hysterically emoji..) Basically, in the first 3 months of a baby’s life, they’re just trying to figure out how to live on the outside. They need to be held a lot, and eat, sleep, poop and that’s about it.
At around 3 months they start to take things in and react. Some require more attention, while some others are a little more independent. (here’s a great article on the fourth trimester and how to make it suck less.) I definitely can see the changes in Owen as he’s approaching 3 months and it’s fun to know that soon(er than I would like) he’ll be running around with Ryan and throwing temper tantrums.
Nicknames: O, Owie, Browen, Oster Toaster, baby Owen,
Diapers: size 1
Clothes: Mostly 0-3 BUT YOU GUYS, I CAN STILL SQUEEZE HIM INTO NB. <333
Likes: Sitting up, eating, clean diapers, big brothers Ryan and Cooper, sitting in my lap so that he can observe the world, judging people, tubbies.
Dislikes: Spitting up, when I walk away from his line of sight, being denied anything..
Eating: Still exclusively nursing! I couldn’t tell you how many times a day, since I just do on demand, but for the most part just when he wakes up from a nap and occasionally the middle of the night.
Sleeping: YOU GUYS. Owen has slept through the night a total of 3 times this week. It’s magical. Ryan took a YEAR AND A HALF to sleep through the night so my saying that I’m over the moon at the occasional full night of sleep? It’s an understatement. It’s not consistent (every other night, actually) but he falls asleep between 7-8 and then wakes up between 6:30 and 8. Both times depend on whether Ryan is running around like a psycho.
Naps have been going well also. On average Owen will take 4 naps a day, all in his bouncer on the kitchen table. (or convenience and the spit up factor.) They last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2+ hours, again depending on how loud Ryan is. He doesn’t really stay up longer than an hour still, and I try to get him swaddled up by 50 minutes post nap or he’ll start getting cranky. He’ll usually drift off on his own, but some days he’ll need me to bounce him a bit.
Other things of note:
-That spit up, though. You guys, this kid with the spit up. He projectiles at least once a day and I seriously go through 4 outfits a day between the 2 of us. I feel like I always smell. After almost every feed he does a little spit up and probably twice a day he cries until he does a giant one. It’s so sad. But since he’s thriving and not unhappy all the time/not eating, we’ve decided not to put him on anything for now. Hopefully, it stays that way (or improves, obviously)
-The birds. I’ve mentioned this before, but Owen still loves to take naps to the sound of birds chirping. I am not having nightmares of birds. Like the sound quite literally haunts me.
-Can we talk about how unfair these eyelashes are? They’re longer than any I have ever seen. Ryan and Alex both have long eyelashes, but man! These are no joke. (sorry for the corner of my boob. Whatevs, yo.)
All in all, I’m pretty obsessed with this kid.
