And another week is in the books! The past 2 weeks have both flown by and also crawled. Such is life with a newborn! As I wrote last week, for the first few weeks of Owen’s life I’m going to do a short little picture-packed post on how the week went and any new fun stuff. So let’s get to it!
Weight: As of Thursday (10 days old) Owen was back up to his birth weight of 5 lbs 15 oz. Just like Ryan, he’s been a slow gainer and there were multiple weight checks after we were finally out of the hospital to make sure he started gaining.
I’m a great mom. My dad said he looks like Will Smith here!
Owen is SUCH a different baby than Ryan was. Ryan was alert and interested all the time, and had a pretty nasty case of colic. He needed to be held 24/7 and would only fall asleep while being nursed and rocked. Owen loves to just chill and when he’s not napping he’s just content taking in the world. I keep joking that he’s the world’s most serious baby – he always has this very serious, unimpressed look on his face.
Sleep: To be honest, I’m not going to make any real comment about it, since I’m very superstitious and I don’t want to jinx it. But that should say enough. I WILL say, that although I do have periods of extreme exhaustion (usually when I’m sitting on the couch – if I’m on the computer or standing I’m good) I haven’t really felt that insane, full-body exhaustion I did with Ryan except for when we were at the hospital and getting round the clock check-ups and blood work. I definitely think I have Ryan, Cooper, and pregnancy to thank for that – I truly think my body is now just used to getting by on a subpar amount of sleep.
How’s Ryan doing? : Really well! I talked about how I was nervous for him to meet Owen and become jealous or sad. Not happening! He loves Owen. He always wants to be near him, always wants to touch him, kiss him and dote on him. Today I sat for an hour (a miracle for squirmy Ryan) with both Ryan and Owen sitting on the nursing pillow on my lap and watching Mickey Mouse. It felt so good. My heart is so full, you guys.
I PROMISE you Ryan isn’t trying to lick me…
Alright, I think I’ve babbled on enough about this kid. Plain and simple, I love him so, so, so much – we all do – and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for him!

Ahhh, Owen looks and sounds like such a sweetheart! I’ve heard so many parents say that their second was more chilled out and relaxed and I wonder if it’s because they know Mum and Dad already have their hands full with their older siblings 😛
I hope you’re all having a wonderful Easter weekend! xo

I’ve heard the same thing! In fact, when I was aBut my brother who came second was a perfect baby – slept so much that my mom actually called the doctor to make sure he was okay!

Owen is adorable, great pics. Sounds like you’re handling this beautifully and both boys are adjusting nicely!
Morgan says
Thanks so much, Christine! We’re adjusting as well as one can expect with a new baby!

It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by here, and I was delighted when Owen’s photo showed up. Awww, how precious! Your comment about him being so much more chill than your older boy made me smile. I was in the same situation. My first girl was super high maintenance as a baby and rarely slept, it seemed. My second girl loved to sleep and was sooo much easier…it’s amazing that two babies from the same parents can be so incredibly different. Hope you and yours had a lovely Easter.

I was SO hoping that this would be the case!! From what I hear it’s pretty common. I was a horrible baby and never slept, but my younger brother was such a good baby and slept so much that my mom actually called the doctor to see if he was okay!!

haha i love his little serious face!! 🙂

I’m so interested to see if he’ll keep being so serious once he knows how to smile!

Owen is so cute, Morgan! And so tiny. I’m so so happy to hear that Ryan is getting along nicely with him. That is definitely my biggest fear with having another. ALSO, seriously glad to hear you’ve got an easier baby this time around (knock on wood), since I definitely know how hard a colicky baby can be. Sounds like you’ve got things under control , mama 🙂
Morgan says
Thanks, Amy!! You know that was my biggets fear ever, but it seems to be going well! He definitely has his moments on occasion but it’s more directed at life in general rather than anger with his little brother. And also, I’m surprised that I’m not as bothered as I thought I would be when he gets frustrated. And YES to no colicky baby – the hardest 3 months of my life!
