If you’re a mom, you’re probably used to doing things with a baby on your hip. But what make up for moms? Check out this tutorial for how to do you makeup with one hand.
If you didn’t know, I had 2 children 21 months apart from one another. They are both needy. And clingy. My first had colic for 3 months and after that was pretty much the worst sleeper ever, constantly needing to be nursed and rocked to sleep, while the newest guy has reflux and is often only happy if he is held a very specific way to put pressure on his poor little tummy. Suffice to say, in the past 2+ years I have never had both of my hands-free for an extended amount of time. So I’ve learned to do a lot of things with just one hand. Including my makeup.
I will never claim this space to be a fashion blog or a beauty blog. For a large portion of my life I considered myself a tomboy, and once Ryan was born I rarely wore makeup with any kind of consistency. These days I try to make sure I cover up those dark circles before I head out of the house, but no guarantees. My main mission with this blog is to share information that I believe could help make the lives of other moms easier, and as we all know, moms usually have their hands full.
That being said, today I plan on sharing my one-handed makeup routine as well as the products I’ve found to be the most useful for accomplishing this task.
Also, if you’re looking to cut down on your hair routine, you might want to consider cowashing! It’s been a total lifesaver for me and saves me SO much time!

Tips:
Cream products are a no-no, unless they are for small surface area AND have a self-applicator. Squeezing a tube and smearing it on your face and then cleaning your hands is too much when you only have one free. Same goes for loose powders.
Keep packaging in mind when choosing your make-up. Fancy packaging that is popular these days is cool, but hard to open with one hand.
The One Handed Makeup Routine for Moms
1.Use your concealer of choice. I’ve been using Garnier Renewal Anti-Dark Circle Roller since high school or early college and still use it. I also just picked up an Essence concealer stick from Target for like, $3 but I can’t find it online. Let’s be real, if you’re a mom who doesn’t even have 2 seconds to yourself to get your makeup done, you probably have eye circles. Apply concealer and dab in with your ring finger (I once learned this from a makeup artist – apparently is does the least damage to the delicate skin on your eyes)
2. Apply foundation. See above, but I use a pressed powder. Use a kabuki brush to apply – it ensures a light, buildable coverage that is pretty forgiving AKA if you miss a spot/go over a spot a few times, it won’t be terrible. I use FitMe! Matte + Poreless by Maybelline.
3. Apply your blush – again, aim for a pressed powder. I think a stain stick would work as well as long as it was a non-liquid variety, but I can’t recommend one myself. I use FitMe! by Maybelline.
4. Eyeshadow is next. again pressed powder. Also, try looking for a palette that has all of your colors in one, so that you’re not opening a bunch of little containers. I highly recommend the Naked palettes. They have a cult following for a reason. A bit pricey, but I used mine all the time. I originally bought it for my wedding 3 years ago and it’s still going strong. I use the basic palette because my eyes do not like any kind of shimmer and I’m a mom who doesn’t need a billion colors because let’s be real – I’m just going to Target and Starbucks. Whatever you choose, don’t go and buy individual shadows if you plan on using more than one color – thinking of opening all of those tiny containers with a baby on my hip makes me want to cry.
5. Highlighter if using. I love this sample of highlighter stick I got at Sephora I don’t know when. (Be a better person than I am and replace your makeup as directed, will ya?) I use it on the cheekbones, tear duct area (?) and right under my eyebrows. It’s not crazy shiny, but makes me look like I might have slept – aka the only reason I put on makeup, amirite? Rub it in. Again, I like this brand because it’s in almost a crayon form, so no messing around with containers and brushes.
6. Mascara. I mean, I usually buy what’s on sale or clearance, so I’m no help here. Just use what you like and try to apply it during a rare moment of stillness. OR stash it in your bag and put it on in the car when your kiddos are locked up in a carseat.
7. Optional lipgloss/lipstick. I use this lip stain/balm and it’s pretty fool proof. But more often than not the kiddos are at the end of their ‘good’ rope so I skip this and put on some chapstick while chasing a toddler.
And that’s it, my friends! Simple, easy, effective. Yes, there is a lot more I could do/should do/makeup enthusiasts would probably beg me to do, but the truth is, I’m not worried about how ‘on fleek’ my eyebrows are. Momma ain’t got the time.
So tell me – what’s the most impressive thing you’ve done with one hand? Have any makeup tips you’re dying to share? What are your favorite products? Let me know in the comments!

Found you from the Mommy blog hop and couldn’t help but click this link- such a fun title for a post and I totally get it! My kids are 22 mo. and 26 mo. apart. Looking forward to trying out your concealer pick because yes, moms (at least most) would do just about anything for more sleep, but usually the only option is to cover up the lack of, haha.

Seriously, that concealer is my life. I’m English and Irish, so I basically came out of the womb with under eye bags! Plus, it’s not crazy expensive.

Brilliant tips! My son is grown up now but I sure could have used these a few year ago. Just applying a bit of makeup can make you feel so much better, especially when you are sleep deprived! Thank you for sharing with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop.
