Sorry to drop that bombshell on ya guys without much (any!) story or background.
Originally, I figured we’d wait the normal 20 weeks to find out the gender of the baby. I didn’t want to spend extra for an elective ultrasound, and my OB does the anatomy scan at 20 weeks, so I could find out then. I always knew we’d find out – I do NOT have the patience to wait all 40 weeks! As time went on though, I realized two things.
1. I would be 16 weeks right before Christmas.
2. The Mechanic probably couldn’t come to the anatomy scan. He works funny hours as a diesel mechanic, and my OB doesn’t do ultrasounds at any times that would work with his schedule. I usually go to my appointments early in the morning before work, but he stays home to sleep/play with the dog/get ready for work since he goes in later/gets home later than I do. As much as we would like to have him there for every appointment, it’s just not reasonable.
In mid-November, I was perusing the interwebs, and found that the elective ultrasound place closest to me was having a special on gender ultrasounds, and would guarantee the results at 16 weeks, which would be December 18 for me. So I asked the Mechanic (under the guise of it could be a Christmas present for the grandparents-to-be) and he agreed. And on December 20, 2013, we went together, and saw our baby boy.
It was pretty amazing to see this little man that’s growing in me. At that point, I didn’t really have a bump, especially since the following week I FINALLY popped. But while I knew the point of an ultrasound, I didn’t know that I’d be able to see his facial features dead on, or all of his little ribs, or, as the tech showed us, his little bladder! It was an amazing experience.
We did in fact use this ultrasound as a Christmas present. While I WANTED to surprise my dad, my mom, AND his mom, only my side got the surprise. The Mechanic was too excited to tell his mom, (though he covered it up by saying, “I don’t like lying or keeping secrets..”) so it was just my side. For my dad, we knew we’d be seeing him on Christmas, so one of his presents was a HUGE box that I wrapped and put “It’s a Boy!” balloons in so when he opened the box they flew out, and I also hand made a blue and white ornament to remember the day. I wish i had a picture, but it was all too exciting and we forgot. WOMP.
For my mom, I saw this frame on sale at Kohl’s and knew it was perfect (this is not my ultrasound, just the picture of an example.)
They both loved them.
So that’s that! We’re having a baby boy and we couldn’t be more excited. Now to name him.. ahh!
Did you do anything fun to reveal the gender or your little ones?
