If you’re wondering how to keep baby from getting sick when mom is, we’ve got you covered. FInd all the tips for surviving cold season with a baby.

a family laying together sick in bed with tissues on their noses.

My favorite part about spring babies was always that they were a bit older by the time cold season rolled around and there was less stress.

Even with that buffer, I always worried.

And anytime I got sick, I always wondered how to keep baby from getting sick when mom is.

How to Keep Baby From Getting Sick When Mom Is

Thankfully, after three kiddos I’ve been able to learn a lot about how to handle being sick with a baby. Today I’m sharing how to survive cold season with your baby when you get sick!

Wash your hands non stop.

Seems obvious, but it’s the best way to prevent.

Before touching your baby, always wash your hands with soap and warm water. Hand sanitizer works in a pinch, but it’s been shown not to work as well as good old soap and water.

Wash off those germs before you pick up your baby.

Breastfeed.

There are so many amazing uses for breast milk, but my favorite is the ability to build immunity in baby! Neither of my boys caught a cold until I stopped nursing, even when I was nursing Owen with a horrible stomach bug.

Here are our tips for breastfeeding a sick baby, just in case they catch it too!

Take care of you!!

Remember that the better care you take of yourself, the faster you’ll recover. While it can be tempting to keep powering through, it will only make matters worse.

Remember to stay hydrated and nap when you can. I love this Orange Carrot Smoothie – vitamin A has been shown to speed up a cold.

This also brings us to our next topic ..

Rely on your partner when you can.

As your partner to take on night feeds, night diaper changes, or just give you time for a nap. We like to think our partner will just know to offer these things, but we need to be okay with ASKING for help!

Be wary of sneezes and coughs.

Cover your coughs and sneezes and immediately wash your hands after. When you can, sneeze and cough into the crook of your elbow.

Limit kisses.

Yes it can be hard! But when you’re carrying a virus, you need to keep contact as minimal as possible. Cuddles can be fine so long as you take appropriate precautions. You may even want to consider wearing a mask.

There you have it for how to keep baby from getting sick when mom is. It will be tough for a few days, but once you’re out of the woods you’ll be thankful you took the precautions.

If you do it all and still end up with a sick little, check out my posts for how to deal with a sick baby!
