These Halloween Mummy Snacks are perfect for a Halloween party or for eating before going trick or treating. Chicken nuggets or pizza rolls wrapped in dough with olive eyes are the perfect, simple Halloween dinner!
Ask any parent what two, sure fire foods are for kids under 10 and they’ll probably give you some form of “chicken nuggets and pizza.” Maybe throw in PB&J or hot dogs but let’s be real, kids love chicken nuggets and pizza.
Okay, okay, I’m 26 and I also love chicken nuggets and pizza. But I digress.
If you’ve been a follower for some time, you probably are aware how much I adore Halloween. I’ve always been the one to start planning for Halloween in July (okay, fine, I may or may not start planning even before that. So sue me.) which is kind of how these little mummy snacks came about.
I was perusing the Halloween side of Pinterest (AS ONE DOES IN JULY, DON’T JUDGE ME ;)) and I saw these super cute mummy dogs pop up again and again. Problem is, for the most part, my kids aren’t huge hot dog fans. Blame my husband who ‘makes’ them eat artisanal, gourmet sausages, but hot dogs aren’t big in our house.
But chicken nuggets and pizza? That’s another story. I mean, they are my children, after all. So I started thinking about how I can take other kid friendly snacks and foods and Halloween-fy them.
Which brings us to mummy chicken nuggets and pizza rolls. Not only are these super fun to eat, they’re a little more safe for young kids. While Ryan is technically old enough to eat hot dogs without cutting them up until I’m blue in the face, I still get a little jittery and start Googling the Heimlich anyway. Plus, with a 1.5 year old there is no way whole hot dogs are making it to his plate. And just because my guys are little doesn’t mean they don’t like fun eats!
Like everything, I try to send your way these super cute mummy snacks are crazy easy and pretty fool proof. In fact, they literally only take 3 ingredients – crescent roll dough, (you could easily use any kind of raw sticky dough – biscuit, pizza, whatever. So long and you can roll and cut it like pictured below.) sliced olives, and frozen pizza rolls and/or chicken nuggets.
Preheat your oven to 350. Take an unrolled crescent roll and roll it out to make a thin even sheet before slicing the longest side into very thin strips.
Take your frozen nugget or pizza roll and press the end of your first strip into it to get it stuck on. Place your olives on as eyes and gently wind your dough around the secure the olives on. Repeat with 2-3 strips, depending on their length until you’ve got a little mummy. Place on your cookie sheet and repeat until you have the desired amount.
Bake until the dough is golden and your pizza rolls/nuggets are cooked through. I baked a few extras without dough to better gauge if the insides of the nuggets and rolls were cooked. Mine took about 10 minutes.
You could probably use refrigerated chicken nuggets as well – I’m not sure what the cook time of that would look like since I tried it only with frozen ones. (I used KidFresh nuggets since my boys love them and they have hidden veggies that even I as an adult who know that there are veggies inside couldn’t detect. HIGHLY recommend it. )
Serve with your kids’ favorite dipping – if you want a little more gruesome action, serve the nuggets with ketchup and the rolls with marinara as ‘blood’.
These mummy snacks would be perfect for a party, a fun Halloween dinner, or even as a fun lunchbox addition. Feel free to assemble and then freeze for easy last minute meals! Just be sure to add a little bit to the final cook time and keep an eye on them a bit more while cooking.
