Halloween Hot Chocolate with Ghosts and Eyeballs
That’s how we came to this halloween hot cocoa! I was looking for something tasty to share with my boys while we watched Spookley the Square Pumpkin followed by The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
My boys remembered enjoying cocoa with our Christmas movie marathon, so there you have it!
This cocoa is perfectly topped with whipped cream shaped like a spooky ghoul or eye. Use your favorite store bought mix, homemade mix, or try something fun like colored cocoa or red velvet for a spookier drink.

How to make Whipped Cream Ghosts for Halloween Hot Chocolate
Time needed: 1 hour.
These whipped cream ghosts are the perfect balance of adorable and spooky! Not to mention, they’re quick to whip together.
- Make your whipped cream
Using either homemade whipped cream or store bought defrosted whipped topping (canned will not work here!) add to a large zip top.
You can use a piping bag with a large, circle tip if desired.
Snip the end of your bag.
- Prep your pan.
Line a sheet tray with parchment paper. (Alternately you can use wax paper or a silicone mat.) I was out and used tin foil and do not recommend it.
- Start piping.
Pipe a large dot of whipped cream onto the tray.
Start in the center and simply squeeze – a large symmetrical circle will form. Release and repeat levels until you have a cone type shape, pull up on the last level to make a peak.
- Decorate and freeze.
Add two mini chocolate chips to the whipped cream ghosts as eyes and place the whole tray into the freezer.
Serve on top of hot cocoa!
To make the eyeball Halloween hot chocolate
Not into ghosts? Try these extra spooky eyeballs!
- Line a baking sheet with parchment and place melting chocolate wafers. Warm in an oven until just soft, but retaining their shape.
- Using wide chocolate chips (this is what I use) press flat side up into the center. Allow to cool. You cna use white or other colors to get fun irises.
You can also skip this and just use a wide chocolate chip as a pupil, but I think it’s a fun touch.
- Using a spring loaded scoop, scoop out whipped cream (or whipped topping onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Place your chocolate eye to the center.
- Using a toothpick dipped in red food coloring, add veins coming from the iris. You could also use decorating gel or red frosting.
- Freeze until solid.
To serve, drizzle the edges of your cup in strawberry syrup before adding in your hot cocoa.
