Happy first Friday of 2017! How was your first week of the year? Mine was eventful and uneventful at the same time- not much actually happened, but there was a blog malfunction which caused yesterday’s post not to go up as expected (look for it tomorrow instead!)
First things first, a HUGE congrats to my girl Heather who just announced she’s expecting her first baby! Go here and send her some love because she’s basically the cutest.
Second, I had my first dermatologist appointment since I was a kid today! (Thursday) After 3-4 days of being up all night itching and spending the day feeling like my skin was on fire under my clothes, I made a last minute appointment. I’ve been trying to put it off since I’m still nursing, but I knew that I was kind of at my wits end. I’ve had eczema my entire life in varying degrees, but when I say it’s never been this bad, I mean it. Like, from my neck to my toes, I have more red itchy patches than not.
Thankfully the doctor I met with is a total breastfeeding advocate, willing to work with me to find a plan that helps heal me and keeps O safe, and recommended a prescription that I would dilute in a tub of lotion, making it even more safe. I’m to use it twice a day for up to 2 weeks and see what happens. I used it once today already and while it might be in my head, I feel like everything looks less red and that I’m itching less. HERE’S HOPING because I’m over it, you guys. I’ll keep ya updated as to how it goes!
Amazon Fire Tablet for Kids. My dad got Ryan one of these for Christmas after I complained that he steals my Nook to play kid’s games, and he’s obsessed! I love that we can read books or he can entertain himself while I get Owen to sleep. I’ll probably talk about it at some point, but I think that although screen 24/7 are obviously no good – hello, fresh air and imagination – this generation needs to learn how to maneuver these type of gadgets because it’s their life. Teaching him how to use this type of technology, how to use it responsibly, and how to set it aside to do other things is easier when he’s 2! Plus, it has a “if you break it, we’ll replace it” guarantee for 2 years. Perfect.
French press and milk frother. This was my gift from Alex (as per my request) and omg why have I waited so long!?!?! I broke and tossed my Keurig (after fixing and breaking it at least 10 times in a month) and our tradtional coffee pot was packed away, so hot coffee was a bit of a process. Now I can boil some water and make a cup just for me in 5 minutes plus frothy milk because it’s my fave. I recommend both of the models I got!
If you're looking for today's blog post – so am I 😂 I had some technical difficulties that I managed to iron out but then had to go do real life things so that happened. Rather than let it get to me, I'm rolling with it and looking at adorable pictures of my kiddos instead of getting frustrated. I bought Ryan this book for Christmas and it's been well loved by the whole family!
This book. Ryan, my sweet, sweet, crazy, non-stop moving boy is protesting reading more and more unless it’s to prolong the bedtime routine. I’ve tried everything, but I grabbed this book for Christmas and I should have know that it would be a winner. There’s no story, just vocab, but he learns something new about it each day – from the names of a truck to a part to a color. Owen loves to check it out too! Mommas of non-reading interested littles – definitely check out this book! It’s super cheap on Amazon (for the size and quality)
Working on blog stuff. Man, even though I felt like a total New Year’s goals fail whale yesterday when my post didn’t go up, I feel like a champ for everything I’ve gotten done. I’ve made a few different recipes and DIY posts and I’m pretty proud of them and can’t wait to show you all them!
Rewatching old favorites. While cleaning/working on blog recipes/blog DIY’s and whatnot, I’ve been streaming Netflix as per usual. Anyone else use shows as background noise? After I finished the Gilmore Girls revival, I needed another show that I could watch without having to pay attention but didn’t feel like searching, so I landed on an old classic, One Tree Hill. Can we talk about how friggin insane this show is. I always forget but omg seriously, they need to just burn that town down and never look back. PS any recommendations for shows I can watch without full attention/
Veet Wax Strips. <– weird, but whatever. I’ve bought this twice now and I’m sold. Right now I’m just using it on my pits (classy, Morgan) but I only need .5 strip per side plus a few stragglers and there’s no mess. I’ve also used them on my legs in the past (right before Austin, actually) and they worked perfectly, but I’m leaving my legs be for now due to my eczema. Anyway, if you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive (a box did my legs + armpits + I had leftovers) DIY wax kit that doesn’t require melting or spreading or anything, definitely check ’em out!
Okay, my lovely friends – I’m out! I’m off to go to blissfully of to (hopefully) itchless sleep! Here’s hoping, right?
So tell me – what was a favorite of your this week?
