Happy Friday, my lovely friends!
As I write this, I’m having a bit of a ‘day’. After going to bed way later than I should have working on a post, Owen woke up at 3:45 and didn’t fall asleep until 4:30 – only to have Ryan wake up in a poo mood at 5. Both boys have been in weird, crazy cranky/hyper/who knows moods this week and the early hour didn’t deter that. Then I realized that post I stayed up late working on didn’t publish and disappeared.
So, Morning. It’s been one.
But at least it’s FRIDAY (okay, as I’m writing this it’s technically Thursday but I’m okay with that. Just the thought of Friday makes me happy.) which means weekend! Let’s talk things that made me happy this week.
FINALLY hitting the splash pad. After my town opened up a splash pad last year, I was excited for this summer when both boys were mobile and ‘heat safe’ to spend every day there. Uhm. Didn’t happen. The truth of the matter was that I was kind of terrified to go by myself with 2 maniacs, especially as Owen was just learning to move around without face-planting every 3 seconds, I worried about doing it ‘right’, how I would handle two little kids with a bunch of older kids running around, and if I’d be able to keep Ryan and Owen safe without looking like a failure. WELL, I sucked it up finally, got a lunch packed and headed over after Owen’s morning nap and went for it.
I’m so glad I did – Ryan literally ran like a maniac for 2 hours and Owen was.. tolerant. I think I was right to wait for Owen to be a bit older (he was still the youngest one roaming freely – younger kids were mostly held by parents) but I’m glad I forced myself to go by myself. I credit building my momfidence a bunch over the past few months with being able to go with them without freaking out.
Zoo coming back! Last year I got my dad hooked to the TV show, Zoo right after the second season ended. Last week my dad asked me what I thought of the new season and I didn’t even know it started. I binged the first few episodes while cleaning the house and omg you guys, so good. If you’re into sci-fi type stuff and/or dig stories about what the consequences of screwing with nature/not respecting animals, I so, so, so recommend it. It reminds me of a mix of the old movie, the Birds, and Jurassic Park.
Getting in the fall spirit. Blogging is weird because it’s a lot like retail in that you start thinking about the next season or two before the current one is even half through. So while I’m worried about and thinking about back to school, I’m also thinking Halloween and Christmas. It’s kind of weird working on Halloween recipes in the middle of August, but it’s also kind of fun because it’s my faaaavvveeee! If you’re a fall fan, make sure you check out my new fall page with all fall posts in one spot – fall recipes and activities, back to school posts, and Halloween and Thanksgiving posts.
Ju-Ju-Be. YOU GUYS. This bag. This bag. I was crazy excited when Ju-Ju-Be asked if I wanted to try out a bag because I’ve been eyeing them for months. I like my Target backpack but the reality is, while I want to use a ‘normal’ bag, going out with the boys without a bag with 8,000 pockets is kind of nuts. This Ju-Ju-Be backpack is kind of my new favorite thing – it holds everything. It’s big enough for my laptop and a full binder with room if I want to use it to take my laptop to Starbucks for work stuff but also perfect for going out the with boys. My favorite part is that the zipper on the main part opens on 3 sides so you can see the everything in there. I took it and the lunch pail with us to the splash pad and it was crazy useful. I was able to hold a change of clothes, diapers, wipes, 2 bottles of water, 2 towels, shoes, and the normal bag ‘basics’ with lots of room in the backpack (you can also use it with a long strap but I like having my hands and arms totally free) and the lunch bag was big enough to hold 2 lunches for the boys plus juice boxes. Highly recommend it.
Okay, friends – that’s all for today! Remember to follow me on Insta and check my instastories over the weekend to see what kind of ruckus the boys start! Let me know what fun you’re up to this weekend!
