Looking for have a family dance party for kids? This kid friendly playlist of kids dance music will be a hit with kids of all ages without the worry of inappropriate music. Help your kids destress and get rid of some restless energy by having a family dance party with your kids!
I have a theory in life that just about any mood can be turned around with a good old dance party.
Boyfriend dumped you? Dance it out.
Time of the month came a day early and you’re feeling like death? Dance, girl.
Kids throwing fits all morning and you want that glass of wine before 9 am? Put on some jams, turn it up as loud as you can, have. a. dance. party.
There’s something so wholesome about turning up music loud enough to drown out all of the chaos, singing all of the words to your favorite song and shaking it until you can move on.
It’s probably my number one parenting method – kids go crazy, I put on the music. Thing is – it works.
Take last week for example – my MIL was coming over at 9, both boys were cranky from waking up earlier than normal, one was crying because the dog ate his eggs (THAT HE GAVE HIM but whatever, not important) and the other was marching around the kitchen banging a plate with a fork while I tried to quickly do the dishes. This is usually where I lose my cool and send them into the other room so Mommy can just do this one little thing, for God’s sake!!
But I stopped, took a deep breath and asked if they wanted to dance. Banging stopped, tears dried up and a chorus of “YEA!”s could be heard from across the street. Each got a spoon, I put on a playlist and we twirled for an entire 5 minutes before they lost interest, calm and ready to take on the world of matchbox cars and little brothers. Meanwhile, my own anxiety level that was quickly climbing was back down to a relatively neutral level.
The power of a dance party, people.
You’re sold, right? You want to give it a shot? I’m here today to give you the most important aspect – a kids dance songs list, or a playlist for dance parties with kids as well as some tips for how to get the most out of a dance party for kids.
How to have the best dance party for kids
The beauty of a dance party – even if you’re talking about a real dance party for kids where you invite other people over and they dance until they’re exhausted and you probably pump them full of sugar before you send them on home – is that you truly don’t need a ton.

A killer playlist
Check! Number one necessity is some kids dance music. If you need even more jams, make sure you check out my list of over 100 kid friendly songs.
I like a small bluetooth speaker that I can move from room to room or take outside. I have this one that’s really durable and I love it. It has awesome Amazon reviews, comes in a few colors, pairs easily with my phone and the battery is awesome. (Ps it’s pretty affordable as well!)
What better way to take a dance party to the next level than to grab a few pretend microphones and add them in while your kiddos sing their little hearts out? This pack comes with inflatable air guitars and sunglasses as well, which is such a blast!
Even better and way more reasonable – I tend to just grab some spoons from a kitchen draw and hand everyone one. Sing your heart out, use it as a drum stick, or rock out a killer guitar solo. It’s the universal instrument!
If you’re throwing an actual dance party, you can’t beat getting a bunch of glow bracelets and turning down the lights while they jam out!
Okay so tell me – does your family enjoy family dance parties? What are you favorite kids dance songs?
