Car seats can get alarmingly gross. Looking for how to clean a Chicco KeyFit30? Look no further than this step-by-step photo tutorial!
A long time ago, I wrote a step-by-step photo tutorial for how to clean a Graco Slim Spaces high chair. It was one of those posts where I put it up and kind of forgot about it, but oddly enough it’s one of my most popular posts coming from Google. My favorite thing about this blog is being able to help people in their daily lives, so I decided to continue doing posts like this with whatever popular products I may have. Whenever I look for things like this, I always come across videos, but personally I like to see things written out with photos so I can go at my own pace. Either way, today I’m going to be sharing how to clean a Chicco KeyFit30!
How to Clean a Chicco KeyFit30
First, pull out the plastic tabs that are tucked into the sides above the handle. Just tug down and they should slide out.
Next, pull the fabric back from all sides. You’ll have to wiggle it around the bottom piece where you tighten the straps.
Untuck/pull out the fabric from where this plastic piece keeps it in place.
Unhook the eye hook and elastic that wraps around the handle on each side.
Flip the car seat over and un-velcro the headrest.
Unhook the straps from the metal prong on the back.
Flip the car seat back over and take off fabric pieces. In the corners of the seat where the straps hook into the base, you’ll see an s-shaped hook that keeps the straps attached to the base. Drag the strap towards you/the foot of the seat and maneuver it until the prong is on the middle of the strap then pull forward to remove the strap through the hook, releasing the strap. Unwind it from the base and set aside. Repeat on the opposite side.
You now have a naked carseat! Wipe it down with your preferred cleaning product. (Might I suggest this all natural citrus cleaner?) Throw the fabric pieces and straps into the wash, and wash on cool. Allow to air dry before following these instructions backward to replace the cover.
I hope this tutorial is able to help someone looking to clean a Chicco KeyFit30! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me!

thanks for the detailed instructions on how to take apart! after second use (first after coming home from hospital), she had a blowout that flowed down the strap into the bottom that i couldn’t wipe clean without dismantling. now, all dirty parts are drying. 😁👍
