Do you ever have a weekend where on Sunday night you feel happily tired, just sad enough to see the weekend go, but also excited for the week to start? That’s how I feel right now. It’s an odd mix of emotions, but after a nice, no plans weekend, it seems right. Anyway, I’m not going to write a novel about how content I feel in the world right now, and instead tell you that I’m linking up with Erin and Katie for this weeks Best of the Weekend.
On Friday, I turned around and saw this..
Yes, that is my one year old who somehow climbed into the tote that we keep all of his toys in. Just chillin, checking out all that is his.
Saturday I whined until Alex agreed to go out to breakfast. We went to our favorite pancake place (The Original Pancake House in Whippany, for all my New Jersians. They have gluten free, dairy free, and vegan options. But I just get good ol’ buttermilk.) and chowed down. I knew that we probably wouldn’t be getting lunch, so I tried to get some protein in my breakfast, and this was seriously so amazing.
Bacon, scrambled eggs, and 3 pancakes for me.
Apple pancake for the hubs. They make this crazy apple pancake that’s like, 4 inches thick and the size of a dinner plate and you have to wait 15-20 minutes for them to bake it. Alex is obsessed.
We decided to head down to Point Pleasant in the afternoon after Ryan skipped his morning nap. Thankfully he took a long one in the car! It ended up being a not so great idea, though, since it was still super hot at 530 and Ryan was not digging it. After hanging out in the AC of the arcades and giving Ryan his dinner, we went to the aquarium on the boardwalk – a sure bet with Ryan.
We stopped at Bobby’s Burger Palace on the way home because I was FOR SURE getting super hangry, and Ryan ate my pickle. He’s lucky he’s cute. I was going to take a picture of my dinner, but i inhaled it, so just imagine the most delicious burger and fries. Done.
Sunday was one of those days where you really don’t do too much, but you enjoy it so much. We had lunch with my MIL, then ran some errands, like the obligatory Target run.
A nap at home while I worked out and Alex did some car work, a long hike with Cooper, and a Chipotle dinner went unpictured, but sometimes a no phone Sunday is just the day you need to recover and enjoy your little family.
So what did you do this weekend?! Do you ever feel like you enjoy yourself more when you go “phone-free” or do you think it didn’t happen without a picture? Let me know in the comments!
Jessie says
Yes yes and yes to enjoying myself when going ‘phone-free’. We’ve actually made it a ‘rule’ that we keep electronics off first thing in the morning while Joshua is home before heading off to work. It’s so nice to just get that one-on-one time as a family.
Morgan says
That’s really smart! We TRY to do something similar after 9ish, and we just plug our phones in in the other room, but inevitably one of us gets a call/text/alert and we have to check ahaha The temptation is real!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
That sounds like a fun weekend! And I agree, sometimes you just have to put the phone down and enjoy your time!
Morgan says
Sometimes it’s a total necessity. My husband encourages it more than I follow through, but when i do I enjoy it!
Kate says
We have The Originaal Pancake House in Columbia, SC and I grew up going to it often! The food is seriously so good and I totally recognize that apple pancake. I usually go for the omelets, because they are so big and fluffy!
Morgan says
SO good. I just started going since we just moved nearish to one. I was going to do an omelette, but I wanted variety with out adding side, and that was the most bang for my buck!
Katie @ Live Half Full says
I know it’s a good day when I have taken zero pictures. I do not blog about so many good moments because of that, and I’m ok with it!
Morgan says
Yes! I definitely feel like I have my phone on me all the time trying to take pictures of my son, but then I realize I’m not enjoying the moment as it actually happens, which is kind of mind-melding and confusing, ahhaha
Kayla @ Blondes Have More Run says
Looks like a great weekend with family! I’m a lover of big breakfasts myself 🙂
Morgan says
I love big diner breakfasts, they just start the day on the right foot in my opinion!
Jamie says
Chipotle dinner! What a fabulous way to end the weekend!!! I always try to spend less time on my phone on the weekends to really enjoy what I’m doing and being present in the moment. Hope you have a fabulous week!
Morgan says
That’s how I see it! I mean, Chipotle all day everyday, basically.
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
Such a fun weekend! I couldn’t help but laugh at the pic of Ryan chilling with all of his toys. I wonder what was going through his little mind. Probably “All I do is win!”
I have a love/hate relationship with my camera. I love just being in the moment, but then I always end up looking back and wishing I had more pictures to help me remember everything by.
Morgan says
Hahhaa, my husband and I try to figure it out all the time. For that one we were either thinking, “All dis is miiiiinnneee,” or “Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta.”
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
Pickle snatchers?! Say it ain’t so! And I’m a huge fan of going phone-free. Actually, one of the reasons I have such a hard time sharing more life posts on the blog is because I don’t have the pictures to back them up… I just forget to take any!
Morgan says
Seriously the lowest point of motherhood.. constantly stealing all the goods! I’m trying to get better at remembering to take every day pictures, but it’s hard when you’re in the moment!
Marcia says
Low key and fun! Just the way I like weekends! I’ve not been to an Original in eons. This makes me wanna go! Yum!
Morgan says
Do it! It was such a great last minute idea!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Whenever I go phone-free for a weekend I usually end up wishing I had taken pictures…but sometimes it is definitely nice to disconnect for a bit!
Morgan says
It definitely is a catch 22! It’s even rougher when you have a kid – you want ALL the cute pictures but you also want to enjoy them!
[email protected] says
I love that picture of Ryan in the tote!! So cute! I can’t believe how big he is getting!
I love weekends like that, where you are just happy, not for any particular reason, but just, like you said, content.
Morgan says
He’s getting HUGE. he doesn’t even look like a baby anymore, just a snot nosed toddler hahaha.
Meredith @ ImRunningWithErasers says
Sounds like a fun weekend! I try to unplug every now and then but it can be really hard!
Morgan says
it definitely is hard, but it always feels so good after!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
That breakfast is so diner and I love it. And the face of the perfect Target Shopper, lol.
Morgan says
Seriously, that kid is never as happy as he is when he’s at Target.
Danielle says
It’s nice to have those weekends without any major plans! I like going phone free from time to time, but sometimes it stinks to miss a good picture!
Morgan says
It’s definitely hard to balance with littles! I pretty much just want to take pointless pictures all day everyday.
Linz @ Itz Linz says
haha william loves crawling in any type of box or basket also!! silly babies!!
Morgan says
I swear, he gives me a heart attack at least 3 times a day! Getting into everything.
Erica {[email protected]} says
Your son is so stinking cute!!
Morgan says
Thanks so much Erica!
Heidi Kokborg says
I really love blogilates. I think Cassy makes some killer workout videos. They make me sweat so much even though they are only for 10 minutes. & Youtube is of course always good when you need a workout! This is a great post about how you can exercise at home so you don’t have to pay for a gym membership 🙂
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
That pancake looks like a dream!
Morgan says
It’s really good. I never get it myself because I would never finish it, but my husband is obsessed.
