Happy, happy Friday, my lovely friends! How was your week? We had some gorgeous hot weather than I was way into (hot weather = tired kids in my book ;)) and although today is looking chilly, the weekend is supposed to be gorgeousss. So I’m down for it. Does anyone have any fun Father’s Day plans? We don’t really, which I guess could probably make me a poopy wife but it’s kind of how Alex rolls so it works. Anyway, let’s talk favorites!
Hi friends! Happy Friday! This week flew by – between plans, a shorter week, and a pediatrician visit for Ry’s 3 year check up and I’m confused as to where the week went! Not to mention, the world’s ickiest weather since the weekend. We FINALLY had a gorgeous day yesterday, but of course, the weekend is also looking gross. Anyone else experiencing gross rain? On the bright side, the week has been filled with good finds! Let’s get into this week’s Friday Favorites!
Have a birthday coming up for a truck lover? Your little will love this DIY Monster Truck Cake and I promise you’ll appreciate how simple it is to make!
I don’t remember a ton about my early birthdays – I know one was at a McDonald’s play place and another was canceled due to a blizzard (that was the year I got my birthday present – a hedgehog! – early because my parents felt bad) but I do remember my brother’s birthdays. I’m not sure if it’s because he was a year younger than me or because he was the baby, but I remember aspects of his early birthdays better than my own. One of the most memorable things were the simple but adorable cakes my mom made him.
Most were from those Betty Crocker mini magazines at the checkout aisles and I’m sure none of them turned out as nicely as the photo or as quickly as it was advertised, but I remember them being amazing. I’m sure half of the awe was that my mom would put so much effort into it, something that would be easily smacked together using pre-made ingredients or bought at the grocery store. (side note – I should say, I’ sure that my mom either also made me cakes or just bought them because I was incredibly sassy and specific about things like that and it probably would have been easier to just order the randomly intricate and specific cake I desired. )
Happy Memorial Day, friends! How are you enjoying your weekend? We haven’t been doing much since Alex has been working all weekend, but we’re still fitting in some time to celebrate Ryan turning 3! Today I thought I’d stop in and share some of my favorite moments going on over at the Wieboldt house lately!
Ryan is now 3. Halp. Excuse me while I go cry all over the place. I tried really hard to get a cute picture like a good Instagrammer of Ryan with one of those number balloons and this is about as good as it got…
Every year I take a photo of Ryan asleep the night before his birthday and this year he looks SO SO old. If you’ve bene reading for some time, you know that Memorial Day is a special day for me, since I met Alex on Memorial day and Ryan was born on Memorial Day 3 years later.
Alex has been working mostly 14 hour days, 7 days a week for a few weeks so I’ve been just trying to keep the house in one piece and the kids alive. If you’ve noticed less posts than normal, that is why. Some days, it’s too much so I struggle through the bare minimum (dishes, diapers, and dinner) and just hang out with the boys.
Ryan’s birthday celebrating began on Wednesday when my mom came over with presents, cake, and party hats. I couldn’t get one of the boys to wear one for much of any time, and this is the best I could get on film hahaha
Thursday we went to my dad’s and went birthday present shopping – my dad got him a cool playset that we’ll set up soon – and ate all of Ryan’s fave foods. Pizza for lunch, Lo mein for dinner. He was a happy kid.
Alex was working on Friday so I mostly ran errands and tried to make it fun for Ry. We went to Target and got cake pops from Starbucks, had yogurt with whipped cream and sprinkles for breakfast, PBJ for lunch,
And watermelon and Cars mac and cheese for dinner. Not the healthiest day, but it was his birthday.
Friday night while he slept I made the most Ryan cake ever. (BTW a tutorial is coming this week!)
My MIL came and gave Ry hi birthday present Saturday – look at that happy little face.
This nugget has been so grumpy, but on the few moments over the weekend it wasn’t raining he enjoyed roaming the backyard too (okay, and sitting in Ryan’s tractor’s trailer.)
And now it’s Memorial day and pouring. Lovely. I’ll be cleaning my house and trying to keep the kiddos from losing their minds. Anyone know of any good Memorial Day sales? Let me know in the comments!
Happy birthday, Ryan! You’ve made it to THREE! You’re kind of a maniac, so there were definitely times when three was questionable (I kid, mostly.) but you’ve made it three whole years in on piece. I’m so lucky to be your momma – you made me into a momma, have taught me patience (and then some) and make me laugh every single day. You’re such a good big brother to Owen, even if I find you two in more headlocks than hugs, and he’s such a lucky kid to have you to teach him everything. You’ve learned and grown SO MUCH over the past year and it’s amazing!
This year, you moved into a big boy bed! You still fight sleep, but I forsee that being a lifelong struggle.
Here's hoping you're enjoying your Monday as much as this kid enjoyed his first orange vanilla twist yesterday. . . . #momlife #toddlerlife #toddlersofig #njmom #njblogger #kohrs #ig_motherhood #littlemoments #candidchildhood #motherhoodrising #icecream #summerdays #flashesofdelight #buzzfeedparents #huffpostparents #motherhoodthroughinstagram
You had your first ice cream come this year – a fan, just like your momma.
You’ve become such a big help – you love getting things from other rooms for me, helping me make dinner, and cleaning up.
You took your first trip to DISNEY!
Ryan got his first 'big' boo boo – a trip outside resulted in a nice sized egg and a small cut – but the mom guilt is real, you guys. From guilt from letting it happen to guilt for making it hurt more when I cleaned the cut out, all I want to do is make him feel better. (I should note, he was back to normal in no time at all, it's all on my end) so right now he's eating bread in his Power Wheels that Alex brought inside and watching Lion Guard. When was the last time your mom guilt kicked in hard?
You’ve taken your fair share of spills – but we make it worth your while. As much as it scares me, I hope you never lose your fearlessness.
A few hours and a 15 miles south and you've got what almost looks like spring. New Jersey is weird. . Can we please just talk about how happy this kid is? This was a just 2 minutes of playing in a small grass spot of a parking lot but the pure joy was contagious. I want to be more conscious about finding utter joy and happiness in simple moments, because as adults we definitely lose that ability. . So tell me: What simple thing is bringing YOU happiness today?
I’ve never met a person – adult or child – who enjoys life more than you. Even when you’re upset, your crying jags usually end in uncontrollable giggles.
Cooper was still your best friend of all time.
Mommas with kids who were born close together: this is the kind of moment to look forward to. There is nothing sweeter than built in best friends for life. . There have been moments in the past 9+ months where I questioned my sanity and if my little lovebugs were plotting against me. (the verdict's still out) Each day gets simultaneously easier and harder as they get older. But then something like this happens; I get a glimpse into the future of raising two best friends who will always be there for one another and it's all worth it.
But Owen is definitely fighting to be a contender. I love watching you two play together – I am so happy that God gave you a little brother to play with and love.
If you know my family, you probably know that Alex regularly gets a new car – he's always buying, selling, or trading for a different vehicle. 🚗🚜🚚🚘It's the perfect situation for our car obsessed boy, but I think this one will be staying for a while. When it pulled up, Ryan let out the biggest, "WOW!!" And ran for the door. He's been staring at daddy's new "fire truck" all morning 🚒 😂
Your truck love was strong this year. I don’t think you’ll ever lose that deep love.
You’re such a goofball – you can make anyone laugh in 15 seconds flat.
You dressed up for the first time this year and went trick or treating!
I love you my little love bug. You’re the best kid a momma could ask for and I can’t wait to see what this next year will bring. Happy birthday, Ryan Richard!
